What's It All About Alfy?

Why, friends and family of course, of course. True friends and family will be there when you need them. At least this is true in our case. I feel sorry for people who feel they have no friends or family to lean on in hard times. But the leaning goes both ways. Life is give and take.

For instance, tonight we will be babysitting our little Sophie, while her mom and dad have a night out. She is a 2-year-old with lots of energy. The fun part is seeing how things look through her eyes. Life is an adventure for her. I remember when she tried to pick up a rainbow reflection on the living room rug. She kept trying but the durn thing wouldn't cooperate. Or when we blew bubbles for her and they landed on the wet concrete. She tried to pick them up, but they dissolved on her.

Life is sometimes like a bubble or rainbow reflection. We try to grab on to it and sometimes it gets away from us. The elderly tell you, the older you get the faster the days pass.
Remember when you were a child and it seemed forever before Christmas would be here or your next birthday?
I remember the excitement of waiting for the ice cream truck to get in front of our house. They had Good Humor trucks and you could buy an ice cream for 10 cents. I was in hog heaven one year because my parents had given me ice cream tokens for the Good Humor truck. There were ten of them which I could redeem for 10 ice cream treats.

For my son, in case he happens to read my blog - (Airplane funny movie quotes): There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Anyway, just another musing moment by 'two of seven'.

LOFTY THOUGHTS

Whoever became "the" authority as to what is considered "lofty"?

According to M-W Dictionary it means : elevated in character and spirit : NOBLE b : elevated in status : SUPERIOR. Now think about it, if you took a casual survey and asked people from different cultures and stations in life what their definition was for "lofty", you would get all kinds of answers. It seems to me that those individuals who have achieved time proven fame or academic powers are viewed as having the 'final and absolute word un everything'.

Now enters the common man and his ideals. You mean to tell me that he cannot come up with lofty ideas or ideals that would be as deep and thoughtful as acknowledged gurus. What about time-honored sayings passed on from our forefathers and mothers. Are they just "wise" sayings or can they also fall into the category of lofty?

And don't forget the children. There are times when words from "out of the mouth of babes" are astounding!

I hope that some time before I leave this planet I will have been able to receive and give others "lofty" ideas and/or ideals.

Think about it.

I am Sophie's Grandma and here is Sophie!

If the nursery rhyme is true, then our granddaughter is sugar and spice and everything nice (heavy on the sugar and spice.)

I am sure there are parents and grandparents out there who would like to find a way to bottle up all that energy these little ones use. Think of it, we could actually keep up with these little guys.

A short time ago Sophie was entranced with a rainbow that was reflecting onto the carpet in the living room. She kept trying to pick it up. To those of us who have progressed beyond the point of wonder and awe, this might have seemed a little futile, but not to a child who is curious and interested in everything around her or him. In this fast-paced age, we live in, maybe we could take a lesson from these young people and start enjoying the simple things around us.

As we move into the hot weather, instead of just watching children playing in the water as it sprinkles our lawns, maybe we could revert to a simpler time and play in the water with them. Now that would be a sight to enjoy. I can almost hear the laughter.

I am looking forward to the day she can play more of the simple games we played as children. At least we used up enough energy that we were more than ready for bed at bedtime.

What is a blog?

Good question. What does one, whose blogging experience is nil, actually write about?

It has been my observation that, perhaps, the miscellaneous ramblings of one who has kinda "been there, done that" might be interesting, especially when the "been there, done that' isn't exactly like the rest of the world. In other words, not to put too fine a point on it, the words of Sophie's Grandmother.

Now, just in case you are wondering, the kitty in the picture is actually an old lady herself. Her name, ironically, is Baby.
